According to an online survey done by Trend Micro Philippines, some Filipinos are willing to trade their personal information for: participation in online lucky draws, for special online deals, discounts and coupons & to gain more followers/subscribers or friends. This is the reason why there are Filipinos who faces privacy issues online. Full name and date of birth are among the details financial institutes most use for verification of transactions. Yet, it is the top two pieces of personal information easily available on social networks!
92% of online users in the Philippines have Facebook accounts. 70% of Filipinos post on their social networks every day and nearly half of respondents allow games to automatically post or update their social network profiles, while 51% of respondents ‘check-in’ to the location they are at on their social networks.
Trend Micro also discovered that there are 718,000+ malicious and high risks Android apps and mobile malware would hit 1,000,000 by the end of the year. There are also 1 identity fraud victim every 3 seconds and if that's not alarming enough, Identity Fraud grew sharply in 2012 with 12,000,000 claims. That's why mobile users need mobile security.
