Vista Land's Lakefront Hosts 'Fly For Rare'
Last Saturday, I spent my afternoon at Presidio in Sucat to watch the Fly for Rare event. It is a day of kite exhibitions, kite‐making workshops and kite flying competitions with the stylish Presidio community as backdrop. This kite flying event is for the benefit of children with rare disorders and was organized by The Philippine Society for Orphan Disorders, Inc., in partnership with Lakefront, Skyworks and Air 21.
At 10 AM they already started the Kite-Making Workshop and Kite Exhibit and at exactly 1PM marks the start of the much awaited Kite-Flying Competition. Proceeds from this event will go to the Philippine Society for Orphan Disorders, Inc.'s CARE FOR RARE FUND to help subsidize the critical and emergency medical needs of children with rare diseases.
Display of their giant saranggolas dominated the sky while basking in the last of the summer sunshine at the lovely Presidio in Lakefront (a Vista Land Community).
Kids with rare disorders and their families as well as other participants get to enjoy Fly for Rare is an effort to help raise awareness about the different rare diseases in the Philippines is also a fundraising campaign to help subsidize the critical and emergency medical needs of children with rare disorders.
Rare Diseases in the Philippines
Children born with rare diseases or disorders may appear normal at birth but eventually develop severe medical problems in life. These medical conditions become long‐standing, progressively disabling, life threatening, requiring multidisciplinary care.
In the Philippines, these medical conditions are considered rare if it affects 1 in 20,000 or less. Individuals with rare genetic disorders are “orphaned” by society. They suffer from social abandonment due to lack of understanding of their disorders and lack of a support system. Medical help is elusive under the current conditions of the country’s health program due to prohibitive cost of treatment and/or scarcity of available medications and health care facilities in the country.
Why 'Fly For Rare'?
As more people are diagnosed and coupled with the prohibitive and increasing cost of treatment and therapies, PSOD is now tasked to accelerate efforts to increase awareness and generate resources in order to sustain consistent and timely access to critical medical treatments and therapies as well as to address the emergency medical needs of our patients.
The weather is unpredictable that day, at first these giant kites didn't have the chance to take off because there's only a minimal amount of air in the area. Then after a few hours, the clouds becomes gloomy and it looks like it's gonna rain good thing it rains when the competitions already ended.
Please bear with me because not all photos look stunning because I'm still a newbie in DSLR, I don't know how to manually set it, especially shooting with clouds. :)
